Samenvatting

Zingevingsvragen, levensvragen, spirituele of existentiële vragen worden steeds vaker op het spreekuur van de huisarts gesteld. Niet altijd direct herkenbaar, maar vaak ‘vermomd’ als somatische of psychische zorgvragen. Bij ingrijpende gebeurtenissen, zoals de confrontatie met kanker, komen zingevingsvragen doorgaans versneld aan de oppervlakte. Huisartsen ervaren zingeving als een belangrijk onderdeel van hun vak en patiënten en hun naasten waarderen het enorm wanneer hun huisarts aandacht heeft voor zingevingsvragen. Met dit hoofdstuk beogen we de huisarts achtergronden van existentiële vragen bij patiënten mee te geven, alsmede praktische handvatten die de huisarts kunnen ondersteunen in de zorg voor zingeving voor hun patiënten met de diagnose kanker.
