Een hordeolum is een acuut ontstaan, pijnlijk abcesje in een ooglid.
Meestal perforeert het abcesje spontaan binnen 1–2 weken, waarna genezing volgt.
Wanneer spontane perforatie uitblijft, kan een incisie met een vaccinostyle uitkomst bieden.
Antibiotische oogdruppels zijn niet effectief.
