Samenvatting

Borstkanker komt vaak voor. In Nederland krijgt 1 op de 7 vrouwen borstkanker. In 2019 werd er bij 14.940 mensen borstkanker vastgesteld; 14.808 vrouwen en 132 mannen. De hoge prevalentiecijfers van borstkanker zijn de reden geweest voor het opzetten van het bevolkingsonderzoek naar de aandoening. Om borstkanker te kunnen diagnosticeren is een triple-onderzoek nodig. Dit bestaat uit klinisch onderzoek, beeldvormend onderzoek en weefselonderzoek. Het beeldvormend onderzoek wordt op de afdeling radiologie uitgevoerd. In de meeste gevallen wordt er eerst een standaard mammogram gemaakt, eventueel gevolgd door aanvullend onderzoek. Denk daarbij aan tomosynthese en ‘contrast-enhanced spectral mammography’ (CESM). Ook het echografisch onderzoek van de mamma(e) en/of axilla(e), MRI-onderzoek en overige onderzoeken (cytologisch onderzoek, histologisch onderzoek, plaatsen van een marker, plaatsen van een jodiumzaadje of lokalisatiedraad) worden besproken.
